Employment Mediation
Employment mediation usually involves the ending of contractual relationships, for example between employer and employee, or an educational establishment and a student, or between business partners.
Often a financial solution is reached, and mediation offers other possibilities that tribunals or courts cannot offer, including perhaps an apology or an agreed reference.

Workplace Mediation
Workplace mediations differ from employment ones, in that they are often about issues of dignity at work, (bullying, harassment, discrimination), performance management or collective employee relations matters.
Here the aim of the mediation is to restore productive working or learning relationships, at whatever stage the dispute has reached.

Sometimes these areas overlap, particularly where the participants have different expectations regarding the outcome. Mediators can bring a fresh approach to a situation, identifying new possibilities that the parties may not have identified previously, but in all cases it is a negotiated settlement that is achieved by consensus.
